This is late but so you'll know next time. I like a 6 inch zara spook walked around weed beds color don't seem to matter most times just the walking action of the bait. Another good top water is a soft plastic rat in black. The swimming action and the tail movement will drive them nuts. I also like big jerkbaits in silver twitched and stoped then twitched again. The hits come on the pause or as soon as you move them again. Spinnerbaits (black or dark blue) with a big willow blade in silver work well at times too. A weedless jhonston silver spoon is another great bait that you can swim. As for live bait a big shinner 6 to 8 inch can't be beat with a float and 3 feet of drop so the bait can swim but not bury it's self in the weeds. Check around lay downs too pike like wood in mid summer as a ambush point if deep water is near by as an excape.

I have found that the best way to hook a pike is to fish for walleye. Tom

Can you give us an approximate area so that we can look at a sattelite map of river there?

If it's any thing like lakes, the pike have a major feedbag on right now.  I would imagin that large minnow baits worked along the shore line and drop-offs near the shoreline should get you plenty of action...Walleye also!  lol!
